Misfire issue

Post by Skoobie »

Hi everyone. Read through the posts and didn't find a resolution so I thought I try a fresh thread. Have a 2012 S60 t5 with 106k miles. Got a check engine light and ran it through my scanner (Launch tablet). Getting misfire codes on # 1 & #2. Ran the data-stream and was getting multiple misfires (hundreds) on 1 & 2. Bought new plugs (Bosch) and coil packs since everything was factory original. Pulled the plugs and they were fried, lots of buildup. No oil or anything in the wells. After reinstalling all the new gear the misfires remained on #1 & #2. Went back and changed coil packs 1 & 2 with the original coil packs from 4 & 5. Misfires remained on #1 & #2. Finally I started the car and pulled the #1 & #2 ignition coil wires while it was running and there was no change in the idle (it was rough as it was before). Leads me to believe it's an electrical issue? Running out of ideas here and I really don't want to take it to a shop 😬 Any help would be appreciated. Thank you

Welcome aboard!

Sounds like your #1 and #2 aren't firing at all. I would inspect the electrical connectors to the coil packs and to the injectors.
Let us hope it is as simple as clogged injectors (or a wiring fault like the common +12V to your suspect coil packs.)

Misfire could be caused by a few (other than electrical) issues. It would be helpful to see what each of your injectors' duty rates are and also do a compression test (to rule out leaks between #1 and #2).
Example of Precision: Measure with a Micrometer, mark it with Chalk, and then cut it with an Axe.
Disclaimer: We (very) seldom do that
