I need to program a fob for my other 2001 XC; found this instructions.
https://www.keylessentryremotefob.com/b ... emote.html

If you have a red security light in the dash of your vehicle, you will be able to manually program this remote.
To manually program this remote:

1. Ensure that all doors, hood, and trunk are closed.

2. Insert key into ignition, turn key to position #2 and back to off at least 5 times
in ten seconds.

3. The LED indicator should start to flash, leave ignition on.
(a) Which is the LED indicator?
(b) Leave ignition on at position II?

4. Once indicator starts you have 15 seconds to program remote.

5. Press the lock button on the remote.

6. The indicator LED lighting for about 2 seconds acknowledges the programming.
(a) "LED lighting for about 2 seconds" What does this really mean?

Thanks.

Hi Oka

3a - the Red LED in the center of the dash
3b - yes, position 2
6 - it will be on for longer than a momentary flash

I've done this, but its been a while.

Hope this helps!

Let us know how you fare.

Waiiiiit a minute ... I thought that for 98+ it was dealer only for programming a fob? I am certain that is true for a 98 (P80), did they make it easier at the P2 switch?

The yellow button is for the "mud" lamp, underneath the housing of the side rear view mirror.

Thank to the OP for sharing. Real money saver if it truly works. Unfortunately, it doesn't work for my 2001 V70 T5. One of my original keyfobs has a bad unlock button so I needed a replacement but was not going to go to a Volvo dealer due to cost. I tried this procedure with a few junkyard replacements, all with new CR2032 batteries. I can't get the security system to flash the red light after 5-6 ON-OFF key sequences. I can get the security system to work normally (lights when locked) with my original "good" keyfob. Anyone else get this procedure to work on a 2001 V70?

Thanks for input/feedback.

Same here. I do believe my UEM is bad & that could be contributing to the inability. My LED works when the car is locked.
Sure would be convenient to get a fob working with the car. Definitely not going through Volvo off that though.

Doesn't work on MY01 P2 and yellow button is for position lamps on that.
