98 v70 5sp base: pcv behavior?

I deliver 40-55 meals per day, of that my car idles 90% of those. Today I left my Volvo idling. I was halfway between car and client's door when I heard a loud 'pfft'. I looked back and saw a big whitish loose cloud of smoke come from under the hood. Not a continuous cloud. A single cloud. I looked at the engine and found the PCV hose had popped off the top of cam cover. I figured there had to be a lot of pressure to pop that off. Is that the case? I did the glove test and the glove did not suck in or totally blow out. The glove oh so slightly has constant blow out; the glove barely inflates but can stand at about a 22.5-degree angle. The catch is that I did not put on a hose clamp when putting the new pcv on back in September. Is there a reason the pop was so loud? Would there be pressure on the hose itself that the glove would not show?

Interesting. The only thing that comes to my mind is that the diameter of the hose is alot smaller than that of the oil filler cap. Also, that hose might just work itself loose over time and just pop off at any given time.

I have had that house come loose on me before. As the rubber hardens with heat and age it shrinks and comes loose. Try nipping the clamp a bit tighter. Ideally replacing the hose with a newer one is best option but that can hopefully wait until you need to do the whole refresh.
