Up to a point. My 98 S70 T5 purred with around that many miles but didn't take well to that one WOT and oil was leaking everywhere. Loved that car, should have taken the time to look it over but no place to work on that mess so donated the vehicle. Paid $500 and put in a lot of parts and sweat equity and it was a real nice driver. Once again, on 01 V70 15" for a smooth ride.

His car is around 265k now, and has been sitting in his garage for the past year. He blew up the transmission the day after Christmas 2020. The engine still ran great, aside from leaking valve stem seals. Part of the reason it's been down so long is that he's piecing together everything to totally rebuild it, along with a bigger turbo. He's had a nice clean M56 sitting in storage, just waiting to be installed... it's killing me to look at it not being used  .

The stain of gear oil is still there on the street where it happened!
I'm sure there was a trail on the freeway when mine happened. It would leak a great deal just sitting so didn't drive it much after that. Reminds me of Pete's!

Ha, yeah that happened to a buddy of mine when he had an S60R. I replaced the angle gear 3 times in that car. It just ate them not stop. Those AGs do NOT like hard launches!

Third times a charm  ? I hope you got paid for the work. None of the FWD nor AWD are great for launches but rather rolling competition, on a closed circuit course, of course.

Of course, my labor is valuable! That one held up though until I bought the car and parted it out. It's living on in another car, probably holding up well this time!
Mine doesn't even grip driving in a straight line. It breaks loose at the top of 2nd, then chirps 3rd. Can't go full throttle until 3rd without spinning.

Are the regulations much higher as the cars seems to be much better maintained and cheaper? Perhaps it's the consumerism in the U.S.

Not sure. We do have MOT (Ministry of Transport) tests which are first done when the car is 3 years old and then every year. They test things such as safety, suspension, steering, lights, safety, emissions, etc. If the cars fail the test, they cannot be used on the road and it is an offence. Therefore, people have to spend a bit more money to make sure the cars are roadworthy.

Wow, that's hard to believe, the way it looks. Were they driving all day every day?
There will be a video with a brief story, but it was used as a taxi most of its life.

The MOT sounds like a Federal program so more stringent perhaps whereas here every state is different besides counties. Some rural counties have such clean air there are no emission inspection and gas pump nozzle don't have vapor recovery. Some of inspection stations are also more lacks than others. The Fee is set by the State and is low so some shops just get a visual and be done with it.

I also find Canadian's do a nicer job of taking care of their cars from looking at the ones for sale. The self serve indoor car washes are state of the art. Due to the winter weather Canadians are force to wash their cars whereas for myself since moving to NC I've rarely wash any of the cars as we get heavy downpours so it's gets cleaned quite often.

I used to obsessively clean my cars, but as I dove more into the mechanical aspect of cars and acquired more cars, I lost interest. I wish I felt like detailing my cars more often, but I just don’t. Too much work, and I’m too lazy! I used to wash and wax my cars at least monthly. Now each of my cars is lucky if it gets washed every 3-6 months lol.

I’ve found shuttling between upstate Ny and Long Island there are no self serve car washes at Port Jeff. The cheapest car wash is $25 and they don’t wand the wheel wells, the whole point.

Yes, I spent Sunday in the parking lot with a bucket of hot soapy water and a brush. Now trying to find a rinse solution
