To Rick Hale Parker...

Did you get a clone V158 or a true Mongoose product?
I'm looking at a clone that is labeled as JLR V158 and I assume it is not the same as the ones labeled V160.

Where do these Vxxx numbers come from? I can't find model numbers on drewtech site.
I also looked at the drewtech site and noticed that they no longer offer a Mongoose for JLR.
It's only shown in the old products section.

Has anyone else tried the clone V160 or at least gotten a pin-out for it?

Thanks.

Jim

My JLR V158 does not have the Mongoose name on it.
I think the only difference between V158 - V160 is the protocols the J2534 API supports and faster CAN transceivers because the V160 would need to be backwards compatible with older versions.

In the ViDA Repack thread somebody has a Mongoose JLR Pro. He having some issues but I think it is issues with the way he installed the repack. If we get his issues straighten up we will have a major clue on this issue.

The Mini-VCI appears to have only one hardware CAN bus. I noticed that the Mini-VCI PCB has a unpopulated SOIC8 footprint.
I bet they are using a generic PCB and the unpopulated SOIC8 footprint is for the second hardware CAN bus JRL and Volvo uses.

Different CAN protocols can run on the same hardware CAN bus if the chip is a newer version that can handle the faster data rates of the newer protocols. Newer chips handle the older protocols without problems. The P1, P2 and P3 uses older protocols. Top speed is 500kbps. Some of the newer protocols can run as high as 5Mbps.

Thanks for the info, I ordered 2 V160 clones. I'm guessing they're going to come with a bunch of CD's but I'm going to start with the vida I currently have which is 2015A (Yes I know it's a rebranded 2014D) and I'll try using the original mongoose driver from their website. If it fails I'll probably set up another virtual machine with all of their drivers instead.

Interesting stuff! Please post links of what you've ordered and how it goes?

Deep scan them before you do anything with them. The disk I got with my DiCE clone was infected.

Yes please post back with results, and post the link on Ali where you bought them. Far too much incomplete information that is FAR too above my head for me to understand, to pull the trigger on buying one without knowing if it's going to work or not. There's a few listed on there as VOLVO compatible. I use DiCE only for diagnostics.

Use the VIDA virtual machine build and you'll have no issues getting the software side up and running. Appreciate you being the guinea pig!

Any update on the JLR V160 clones?
I'm thinking about getting a V158 clone. Any good news on that version?
Thanks.

Second the above post. In fairness, shipments from China take up to 8 weeks so we should be patient on an update. But we should gently nudge him.. he is Canadian after all..
