2013 Dashboard says that driver's door is open...IT IS NOT!. Thus, I cannot lock the car...thus, I cannot go anywhere with the car. Took it to the dealer...but the warning was gone and the doors locked. Obviously, they could not offer any fixes.
Well, it happened twice since, and is in the my driveway unlocked.
Any ideas? I hate to have the dealer 'evaluate' it...as it will cost for the diagnostic. He said "$250" to diagnosis.

Try tracing backwards. Older cars have a door switch mounted on the frame of the car or door so when closed the switch is depressed. Newer cars it's probably in the lock mechanism itself. Spray some lubricant into the door lock mechanism and open and close half a dozen times and see if the light still stays on or go off.

Perhaps the door strike needs adjustment. Doors should have 2 levels of latching. You can just close the door enough so it won't open but it's also not sealed. The second level is when you shove it from that position and it closes all the way. May need to adjust the door strike one way or the other.

It is very common that the cabels in the rubber hose running between fender and the door, wears and breaks. I had the same symptom when my cable was broken. It have happend to me on both front doors. For information, malfunction of the back door can originate from the front door cable.
How to fix:
- Loosen the door end stop.
- Remove the connector in the door. It has a locknig mechanism that you can see in my picture.
- Remove the vertical screws in the hinges.
- Lift the door off the hinges and put it out of the way.
- Peel off the rubber hose from the connector.
- Repair the cable. You have to add some extra length of cable to get the rapaired parts out of the bending area.
- Put everything back again.
