If you don't know how to remove the unit, as Matthew says, push the 2 sliders in slightly and they will pop out. Sometimes they git sticky and need a little gentle help to pull all the way out to release the unit. Don't wrench on it or you can break them.

There are 4 or 5 connections on the rear and the multi-plugs can be tight to release. They have little buttons on them to depress to release.

The top can be release (depending on the unit) by undoing a few little cross head screws. Lift the lid from the rear as it latches in at the front in plastic.

You should then be able to see the mechanism in there.

These units at Pick and Pull are about $15-20 each and sometimes go on sale for less. Take a not of the Vin number and you can get the code from Volvo for it.

it sure does. doesn't make that godawful noise when a cd's in anymore either. kanye CD still mostly works. thankfully, i didn't need to take note of the vin as i found the radio code on a piece of paper in the (original) documentation in the glovebox. impressive stuff. highly recommend to anyone in the calgary area to go have a peek at this car. It's at Mr. V Plus, HEAVILY optioned wagon. Trip computer, power everything, trip computer, sunroof, turbo, etc. there are still a few things i wish i pulled from it, like the cargo nets (as mine was missing them for some reason or another) but couldn't get them out and i don't see myself going back anytime soon until i have enough to fix my nasty header leak.

aaaanyways.....

i'll be telling the story of how $2.25 was the source of a problem, rather than a solution probably for a couple years to come. ironic. Glad to be a part of a community like this. usually the owner isn't active very often, if ever. Matt, you are a great help!

That’s a Volvo feature. If you had E Power Biggs pushing Tocata and Fugue, it would play perfectly. Get in touch with Volvo chi.
