Hello,
We're having some trouble tracking down what is triggering a lingering lean code in Bank 2 (P0174) of our XC90. Here's the history:
Awhile back, we were having FPS codes intermittently being tripped p0089 and p0193. This would mostly happen after sitting in stop and go commuter traffic. We then noticed a lean code (P0174) was occasionally thrown. Drivability, stalling, choking, change in fuel economy = not present. Car has been driving normally this entire time.
New FPS was recently installed and I haven't seen p0089 or p0193 since. P1074, however, is continuing to get tripped at regualr frequency. The code is tripped at idle, and no stalling or hesitation is noticed. car seems to be driving normally.
DTC Freeze frame data (at idle, when code is pulled) indicates the following (this is about the same with every code read after we clear and it returns):
Fuel trim and EQ ratio seem in range, so I'm scratching my head...any thoughts? We're about to pop a new MAF sensor in there just in case.

Volvo DTC ECM-P017400
Definition:
System Too Lean (Bank 2)
Description:
Engine Control Module (ECM) receives information from the heated oxygen sensor about fuel/air mixture in different load areas. If Engine Control Module (ECM) registers that fuel/air mixture deviates too much from target lambda, so that adaptations for bank 2 end up in any of its end-positions, the diagnostic trouble code is generated.

Cause:
- 1. Too high ethanol content in fuel.
2. Incorrectly installed/damaged oil dipstick (air leakage).
3. Air leakage intake manifold.
4. Air leakage, exhaust pipe.
5. Low fuel pressure.
6. Damaged mass air flow sensor.

Maybe get yourself a copy of a VIDA image and install it on a working machine (PC or Mac). Link in this forum I think or you can do an internet search for "VIDA 2014D image" and follow the instructions in one of the links that comes up.
A few of the cause items listed above have individual troubleshooting pages. One such page notes your reported idle pressure of 69 PSI as being within the nominal 480kPa called out in VIDA for idle on a warm engine. Another troubleshooting section requires the adaptation values reset to zero and the car driven to see what's what, for this you'll need a DICE to connect to the car.
I'm guessing it's worth a look at the documentation in VIDA to get some detail as to what criteria triggers the ECM-P017400 code and how Volvo suggests it can be diagnosed and addressed.
Valve cover gaskets or any hoses removed and replaced recently? Oil dipstick "clicks" into the block when fully inserted and it's not loose? I'm guessing air leak at this point with all you've replaced thus far but that's just a guess.
Edit 032219- typo (you've)

I didn't want to start another thread on same exact topic. I'm have almost identical condition as the member who started this thread. P0171 and p0174 lean condition on bank 1 and bank2. A 2008 XC90 V8 with 170k on odometer. A couple weeks earlier I had replaced the FPS sensor due same codes the thread starter had, after replacing the FPS everything was good for 2-3 weeks. Yesterday I get the running lean codes. The symptoms are some hesitation sporadically under 2000rpm and will go away if you give throttle. If she has been sitting for atleast 24 hours the initial start up will briefly trigger a "no oil pressure warning " on dash display screen for like 2 seconds. She does need an oil change though, I was associating the oil pressure warning to old oil. I'm not driving it intili resolve lean running condition.

I’ve found watching short fuel trims at idle and at 2500 Rpm gives a great diagnostic for vacuum leaks. I think you have access to all the diagnostics but let me know if I can drive over from port Jeff with anything. I’ll need to know by mid week to put it into the ferry backpack ( I leave my car in Bridgeport)

I appreciate the offer...I do have a capable handheld scanner with real time live data. What I do need to get is a good copy of the VIDA 2014. I purchased a VIDA/DICE via ebay a while back and by the time I got around to attempt the download of the VIDA program the ebay seller was long gone. The VIDA program copy didn't have the loading file, so it was useless to me. If you know a reliable source to get a copy of this program that would be great...I still have the DICE DLC interface.abscate wrote: ↑06 Feb 2022, 07:30 I’ve found watching short fuel trims at idle and at 2500 Rpm gives a great diagnostic for vacuum leaks. Thank you. I read the link/thread, I will give it shot... I spent hours trying to load VIDA using instructions from another members write up but I wasn't able to load onto my Windows 10 laptop.RickHaleParker wrote: ↑11 Feb 2022, 10:25Read this.shiloh51933 wrote: ↑08 Feb 2022, 13:09 The VIDA program copy didn't have the loading file, so it was useless to me.
