Windshield washer check valve?

It does stop it draining as it is a one way valve. Once closed water dos not drain back down as it is in vacuum.

I never thought of it that way. I did actually use vacuum to change the valve on the bottom of my water heater in my house. Close the intake and outlet valves on top and most of 40 gallons is held inside while I removed the leaky drain valve on the bottom.

I did notice that the driver's side hose looked a little different than the passenger side, so maybe I've had one or both check valves removed and replaced with simple fittings, at some point by someone not knowing any better, or maybe just an internal failure.
