Driver side cv axle into transmission

Everything on the Volvo S80. Sometimes called an "executive car", the S80 was Volvo's top-of-the-line passenger car. P2 platform.

Driver side cv axle into transmission

Post by Gus11445 »

So I've noticed on most driver side cv axles at junk yards and videos online the driver side cv axle is fairly tight when installed with very little in and out play, if any at all at the site where the inner axle meets and goes into the transmission. On my S80 I have an aftermarket cv axle installed that "clunks" in and out at least half an inch, maybe even more at the insert spline area. It's been years since the original factory was replaced and have no idea if this play is normal or acceptable. I know cv axles are meant to work at different angles and ar designed to move in and out at the joints to some degree , but to have that much play in and out where the axle goes into the tranny is sort of concerning. I have the t6 4 speed auto fwd . I also wondered if this could be a sign of something worn or broken in the transmission? Transmission was rebuilt 30,000 miles ago with no noticeable problems with shifting. I have a fairly strong pull to right when hitting the gas hard and then back left after letting off which is one of the main reasons I'm wondering about this aftermarket cv axle. Car drives straight as can be when cruising but any acceleration makes the car hard pull to the right.
