That's good to know-- I hadn't heard that they aren't up to par. It's a shame that they aren't a reliable option, as the list of parts that could/should be replaced when doing springs can be pretty long, especially in "rust belt" cars...

When you assemble and disassemble there is always a chance for human error and or chance of injury. The amount of time and energy wasted is just not worth rebuilding anymore. The price, lifetime warranty, customer service and ease to install a complete assembly is just too ridiculous not to use them. Even if you are changing them every 50K under warranty it's a fresh set. The potential for poor assembly is greatly reduced as the workers do this day in and day out. Lastly, metal fatigue even if it does not break!

A pair of 4C quick-strut assemblies and endlinks for $250 ... and you suggest hey just change change every 50k? Good luck getting 5k out of those!

Time and energy wasted, indeed.

I used to read a lot of scary stories of front springs breaking and taking out wheels, tires and brakes. Not had this personally but we did have a rear spring break on our 06 XC70 short of 100k miles. Rebuilt the whole suspension with new springs all around just for safety. If it was a P80 I wouldn't think twice about re-using the springs unless really rusty or sagging.

These are for Non 4C. It's not a conversion from 4C. Quality can be hit and miss these days with a good brand going with a new manufacturer with problems while others improve so become better quality parts. With a Global economy it's hard to say whether a part will be good or bad. Customer service, good ratings and an excellent warranty it's worth a try. Besides it's easy in and out.

6 month old Sachs quick struts. Both sides went off like cannon fire a week apart

Wiped out a wheel and tire, too.

- Abscate, did you file a complaint with FCPEuro (or wherever you bought it from)?
Maybe it was a bad pot hole???

- Maybe this is the reason they removed Sachs Quick Struts from the shelf.
I am back to rebuilding it myself.

- OTOH, my 2004 V70 Sachs quick struts are still OK 3yrs/24K miles later (installed 2019).

PS: the reviews of Quick Struts on FCPEuro are very good FWIW...

Exactly what I was saying in my previous post.

Being it's weeks apart and from the pics it looks like bad forging from the rust embedded in the middle of the spring. Sach has third parties build it and they source the springs also. Time and chance, hit and miss so that's the LOT.

My remedy for quick-struts, picked it up cheap from a body shop that upgraded:

I've done three sets since I bought it a year ago, has paid itself off as far as I'm concerned.

Not sure, B4 is twin-tube, XC70 originally had Sachs Advantage series (red label when bought as Sachs, not Volvo), which is monotube. Bilstein's analogue for Sachs Advantage would be B6.

Disclaimer: advantage series has been cancelled for our platform, I don't know what technology Sachs uses now in struts made in Turkey. They last about ~100 miles on a gravel road and then the suspension fades out until cooled down.

You can get B6 for XC90 and use your original springs, ground clearance would be about the same, maybe inch higher. But they are expensive as hell: a pair of B6 struts for XC90 costs as much as the whole 4 corners B8 kit for Tundra.
