Wagon rear wiper doesn't contact glass

On my 2000 V70, the rear wiper barely contacts the window glass. Replacing the blade doesn't help. I suspect that the spring is rusty and no longer pulling the blade against the glass. My previous 2000 V70 also had this problem.

Does anyone have a good solution for repairing this? Is there a replacement spring with the exact same specs?

I could try to buy a new rear wiper arm, part 3512315. $59 list, $53 + expensive shipping at VolvoPartsWebStore, $57 at eEuroparts, not available anywhere else. I hope that VPWS and eEuro can actually get it as they say.

It's usually the hinge that rusts up. I spray it with penetrating fluid, work the arm out (away from glass) and back towards the glass. Try to spray both sides of the pivot pin, can get to I side easily with arm completely away from glass.

Thanks for the tip. I've been plagued by this for so many years but always blamed the rusty looking spring. I'll spray the hinge and work it out.

I recently read that white lithium is best to lubricate metal on metal joints. I have a tub of lithium grease but maybe I'll get a bottle of spray and try that.

Something that doesn't attract dirt, it lives in a harsh environment back there, always covered in dirt and water.

Great tip thanks. Mine also makes poor contact which I have attributed to lousy blades.

That almost looks more like an out of position motor, or bent shaft. The back glass is flat, unlike the curvature of the windshield.
If there are rubber bushings on the bracket, could some of them have given up ? (I've never had to dive that deep back there.)
I would avoid grease, CRC or silicone would be a bit more tidy.

It's interesting that you mention bad mountings. I removed the wiper assembly to remove the tailgate handle to replace the light bulb sockets. When I put the assembly back, the wiper made great contact with the glass. A month later, it went back to poor contact.

I'll try PB Blaster penetrating lithium grease spray on the hinge, working it in as advised above. If that doesn't work long term, I'll look closer at the mounts holding on the wiper assembly.
