A haunting story, and the author seems to have conducted a fair number of in-person interviews with survivors. As someone who has experience with nuclear power, it was hard reading, especially about the kids sent in to clear the debris by hand.
"Midnight in the Pacific" (Wheelan)
"Twilight of the Gods" (Toll), part of a trilogy
and "Morning Star, Midnight Sun" (Cox), also part of a trilogy, all deal with the early days of the war in the Pacific, especially Guadalcanal. The point they all seem to make is that the Allies made fewer mistakes than the Japanese.
"Miracle at Midway" (Prange) is a somewhat rosy story told by a fellow who was MacArthur's official Army historian (!), and he treats the General lightly.

"The Long Road - The story of the Great Automobile Race Around the World in 1908" by Alise Barton Whiticar. Copyright 1981. A Thomas Flyer car and 5 others leave from New York City drive around the world. The Thomas Flyer finished first in 169 days.
"American Road: The Story of an Epic Transcontinental Journey at the Dawn of the Motor Age" by Pete Davies. A US Army convoy of 69 vehicles cross the US in 1919 lead by Dwight Eisenhower. The trip took 69 days.
"Road Fever - A High-Speed Travelogue" by Tim Cahill. Describes the 1987 GMC Sierra Truck promotion trip from the southern tip of South America to the northern end of the Alaskan pipeline haul road. The trip took 23 days. 22 hours, and 43 minutes.
"Against Gravity" by Ed McCabe is the story of his participation in the Paris/Dakar road rally with his fiancee as co driver in a Mercedes SUV. Their trip was about 1990.

This one was given to me by my son. It really is a cool book to read. The author went all around photographing all kinds of different cars and trucks using a 30 ft x 30 ft black tarp. Just beautiful pictures are the result.

The book, "The Candy Bombers" was interesting. History with a human interest story.
"The Monuments Men: Allied Heroes, Nazi Thieves, and the Greatest Treasure Hunt in History" by Robert M. Edsel is another WWII story untold until recently. This book was also made into a movie.
