2002 V70 XC, AC fans blow but little airflow through vents

Post by dittokiddo »

Hi all!

Back in October I purchased a 2002 v70xc, mechanically the car runs fine, but there's an issue that I've run into regarding the AC. There's very little airflow coming through the vents, but plenty through the vents at the floor! In order to feel any air at all on my person, the fans have to be cranked all the way and even then it's very little and very loud!

I took it to a shop that works on foreign cars in my area that the previous owner recommended (unfortunately no Volvo specialists in the area), and the mechanic said the fans and blowers are fine and that the problem is with the AC head unit. Ok, so I try a couple of different second hand CCMS with the same part number, same model/year, no luck! I saw that some people recommended resetting the car computer with the lock/unlocking of the door, or saying to try replacing the cabin filter, no luck there either. I've also checked the fuses to see if there were any out, they're all good.

Any ideas? Is this an issue that could mean a trip to the dealer asking for a reprogram of the CCM? Anything helps! Want to get this sorted before the Florida weather starts back up

Thank you!!

One of the possible causes is the broken arms that control the flaps.
I broke mine during heater core replacement of my 2005 XC90.
Very easy to inspect...driver's side, just look upward with a flash light.

My XC 70 is the same. I've never been able to find any problem with it, I'm thinking this is normal that is sounds like a 747 taking off and not much air comes out the vents.
