But then when we looked online, they were all "L" shaped and he wanted a "T" shaped one.

So my questions are:
  • does this sound like a FPR problem?
  • Any update on where I can find one of these things?
So everywhere I looks shows discontinued on that product. Eeuroparts still has a picture for reference. The only place I see it for sale is a sketchy site. I'll post the link. I dont know anything about the 2040-0arts site but it claims to have a new one. Other option would be junkyard hunting. Im not sure how the parts stores say those right angle L shaped ones are compatible. They are missing a hose connection.

Super helpful post, thank you!

Yeah that's the right part!

Here's my updates:

So when I clicked on the "place order" link on the 2040-parts.com link, it said "part is no longer available."

I called eEuroparts.com to see if they had the part, and they said it was discontinued. I asked if sometimes a part like this will show up again and he said that parts get discontinued if demand is really low. And so the only option is find it used.

So looks like my only option is a junkyard at this point. Will keep you all updated. Let me know if you have any advice on the best Volvo junkyard in SoCal....

The FPRs are obsolete parts.

First , make sure you need one by monitoring the absolute fuel pressure at idle and at load. Your mechanic should have done this then told you the results. I’m not sure you need to chase that part, failures are rare, if it isn’t full of fuel on the vacuum side

ok good to know. Found a great Volvo junkyard https://www.yelp.com/biz/de-la-huerta-a ... s-duarte-2 which I'm going to on Saturday and they have a used FPR they are keeping on hold for me with the correct "T" shape and everything. Within seconds of calling them, the owner knew exactly the part and the symptoms so I feel like I'm in good hands.

My mechanic did not run those tests when I brought in the car last week but he has worked on the car a bunch over the past few months so I feel like he was making an educated guess. He's worked on this particular model a bunch (his niece owns one). I will provide your info on what to look for to this junkyard - they are going to do the replacement for me..

will report back!

Hi,
I checked with our local Advance Auto Parts; they say Beck-Arnley #158-1210 ($92.49 + $6 shipping) available.

See: http://www.beckcatalog.com/partdetail.a ... 0REGULATOR

It may or may not fit your model

I have:
98 Volvo V70 T-5

amazing - thank you for keeping an eye on this and for the link!

I did end up getting the new (used) FPR installed and...it made no difference. Same issue as before of needing to crank the ignition 2-3x every time I start the car. Not sure if getting this new part would help.

My mechanic that I relied on also left the shop he was at during the pandemic and I haven't been able to find another SoCal mechanic who knows vintage volvos. So that's another component of this ongoing saga. Car still runs great, once she's started. Just embarrassing when I have guests in the car to have to crank the ignition a couple of times.

Check the fuel pressure....I know it's not a Volvo, but I had a hard starting issue with the 454 in my Chevy truck. I was sure it was the fuel injectors going bad because they are a known issue, with the L29 454. I wasn't replacing them for various reasons, but in the mean time my fuel pump started acting up. It got to the point, I'd have to hit the bottom of the fuel tank to get the truck started. I replaced the fuel pump and no more hard starts. While my injectors probably aren't great, they were not what was causing the multiple cranks, even after priming the system.

I don't know how low my fuel pressure had gotten. I was certain the pump was bad so I didn't check it.

This is an update on the prior posting I made on January 13th, above. The part Iwas directed to, the Beck Arnely part is the incorrect part for the car (98 Volvo v-70 T5). It is the correct part if the FPR is located on the fuel rail. In my case the FPR is located over the steering box. Iam sorry for the confusion; I did not have access to the car at the time, and was misdirected after showing a picture of the engine and its fuel rail and fuel lines. To determine what you have for a FPR in your car you have to present the VIN. If I could get access to my previous posting, I would change it to reflect this. Thanks.
