Fuel Injector Noise

Post by djf2729 »

I recently posted a question about a "valve tap" noise. I took my 99 S70 GLT to the dealer. They claimed it to be the fuel injectors "clicking". They added something to the engine and it didn't make the noise for awhile.

Now it "clicks" all the time and sounds like...well, not good. I always use the highest octane gas. Car runs fine, just sounds like crap.

Anybody experience the same? Is teh dealer lying so that he doesn't have to make a big repair under my warranty?

Can you hear it from the cabin? Or just when the hood is up?

I hear mine with the hood up and I suspect most or all 850 owners do too.
Help keep MVS on the web -> click sponsors' links here on MVS when you buy from them.

Also -> Amazon link
. Click that when you go to buy something on Amazon and MVS gets a cut!

I can hear the noise with the hood down when standing outside the car or with the window down.

I just signed on to this board because my '99 S70 is doing the same thing. The noise is definitely comming from the injectors. When we first got the car it had just come off a 48mo lease and did not make the ticking noise. After about a year one of the injectors started ticking and I gave it a good dose of Chevron's Techron injector cleaner; noise went away. Now it is back again and this time it seems as if more than one injector is ticking away. I just changed the oil yesterday and gave it another dose of Techron; the wife has it on a road trip and hopefully the Interstate driving will fix it.

Have you solved your situation? I see this post is a little old.....

Thanks

I have had this sound analyzed by a few volvo mechanics. Now they tell me that it may be the hydraulic lifters going bad. Told me to try synthetic oil for awhile before replacing them!

Appreciate your response but I don't think a 5 year old car with 50k will have "worn out" lifters. I would seriously question a mechanic who would even suggest worn lifters. I suppose if the oil in the car had never been changed...maybe....

No, I can hear the noise coming from behind the fuel rail and it is definitely the injectors.
