2008 XC90 with door locks gremlins

Hello Guys

I have a 2008 XC90 3.2 AWD

Sometimes when I lock the doors using my remote control, my front right lock does not close. I need to press on the remote unlock and then lock and this way it close that lock.

Sometimes the same happens but it’s the driver door that refuse to lock. I have to do the same unlock and then lock and it works.

This only happens with the front locks and is a pain in the …… Because every time I get out of the car I have to check thru the windows if the locks are down.

Other thing that I have notice is that sometimes when I open my door, get into the car and then close the door, it locks by itself (without I doing nothing)

Another info: When I am driving the car if I press the unlock button on the door window swiches panel, all the door locks work perfectly, they open and close. Also, they also relock if somebody open the door to get out (these include both front doors too)
So I don’t think the electric solenoid/motors inside the doors that locks and unlock the door are bad.

Maybe I have to reset the door locks or disconnect the battery??.

I also check for OBD codes with my OBD Codes reader and there are no codes.

Any advice?

Some say locking and unlocking the doors 3 times will reset something. Not sure about unplugging the battery, the car may get even more confused. Does it do the same with the spare fob? Maybe replacing the fob battery but I would fear that may confuse the car immobilizer. Maybe also try removing the alarm siren fuse see what happens.

I would like to revive this thread.

I have this exact behaviour on my 2008 XC90, just as described by poster, on both front doors. Only minor difference is that mine self locks mostly when I get down and shut the door after a drive. Only on one or two occasions has it occurred when getting in. I assume there is no difference between both.

Also, the self lock happens only on the driver's door and it locks only the driver's door even if any other door is open; leading me to eliminate the central lock relay.

Any pointers will be appreciated.

Hey Simcoleoni,

I am still with the same problem...... But is always my driver door that giving me the problem

So when I get out of the car, I need to first press "unlock" all and then press "lock" and this way it close all the doors locks including the drivers door.

Hope someone can let us know how to fix this.

I had a different problem with my 2005 XC90 2.5T with 120K miles, the RIGHT REAR door sometimes locked by itself,
with the car parked inside my garage at home. It was an intermittent problem.

New Door Actuator is very expensive in the XC90, so I went to junk yard and pulled a RR door actuator and replaced it.
Problem solved.

I had a similar problem with my 2001 XC70 - it was the left rear door. I just lived with it. It was like it went out of sync and I would have to lock/unlock/lock/unlock and it would fine for sometime - then it would reappear.

It would be good to get an answer on this thread! I have a 2007 XC90, and had to replace the serpentine and pulleys in a parking lot. Took me several days working an hour or so at a time, so I would unhook the battery while working on it, then hook it up so I could lock up the tools and parts while I was away. Now my locks do the same thing, including locking all 4 doors with the keys in the ignition and the car running, after I get out. (Very embarrassing, had to wait for my wife to bring the extra fob, she was not happy to be up that early either). If there's a fix for this or a way to "retrain" the locks I would love to know!
