Hello
I have a 2017 XC60 and last night it was 25 degrees out (-3.8 Celsius). I had 75 miles to go on fuel. I only use premium fuel. Pulled into parking spot and car died. Tried to restart, would crank, but nothing more. Sounded like it was out of fuel. Waited awhile and tried to start again, simply wouldn’t do anything but crank, sputter and die. Son came with OBD2 reader and said fuel pressure issue. Car would show the limp mode before it died. We also added more fuel to the tank. Still no start.
Had it towed to Volvo dealership today. They did diagnostics and said nothing was wrong with the car. They said that the fuel was too low for really cold weather. It DEFINITELY gets a lot colder here in chicago than 25, have also had it to where it was 50 miles to empty and below zero f and no issues.
The original dealership sold us a warranty and said it was Volvo, it is not, it is third party. I am fearful that since it is warranty they don’t want to repair it and I will be stuck again and need it towed again.
Please advise. Any similar experiences?
Thank you.

My first reaction is this dealer does not want to do anything but make up excuses.
Second thought is: You do not report how many miles and the general condition of the fuel system and engine. A weak fuel pump or partly clogged fuel filter will be stressed more with low tank pressure. BUT, the dealer should address these as the problem, not blaming the only moderately cold weather. Take it to another shop.
Others have ideas?

25°F is too cold. Dealer could not have possibly said that with a straight face. Time cor a new dealer. I'd share your experience with the dealer GM, they will likely be embarrassed.

To be fair, 75vmiles range is too low fir any weather.Had it towed to Volvo dealership today. They did diagnostics and said nothing was wrong with the car. This car uses suction to bring fuel over from one side of the tank to the other. The fuel in the tank also cools the electric fuel pump. You should keep your tank 1/4 full or more at all times, maybe down to an 1/8 on a highway trip lowest
You don’t save money with an empty tank
