HI all!
Finally got around to mounting 205/55/16 tires. Works super well, no chafing whatsoever, even at full tilt. I suppose the only thing I'll have to be aware of is that going forward my speedometer will be indicating a slower speed than I'm actually going ;-)

It is not much of a difference even at 70 mph you are only going 72.3 mph. As long as you know about it then hopefully you are good.
The positive is that as per Volvo's reasoning the slightly higher sidewall will hopefully reduce chances of sidewall splitting that the original sidewall side was supposed to cause.

Thanks scot850! I went with the Nokian WR G4 tires. Hope they are better than my last Nokians, the Entyre, which came apart from the inside out after 5k miles ;-)

That is disappointing as Nokian tires and in particular their winter tires, are very highly regarded up here. Good luck!

Thanks. I've written to Nokian several times about this issue, alas, not a single response ;-(

That is disappointing to hear. I would suggest talking to where you get your tires from and see if they have a local rep for Nokian tires and see if they can contact them for you to discuss the issue.

I had an issue with Michelin winter tires that I got from Costco and they got the rep in to look at them and speak to me. They ended up replacing the tires under warranty. It was a bad batch issue.

Thanks for that tip, scot850. I've just emailed the vendor - they've actually been great, they gave me a partial credit already out of their own volition. But I would indeed like to show Nokian the photos of the bad tires. See what they say.
