2003 D5 timing belt slightly off pulley?

Post by panth0n »

Just did the timing belt with Volvo OE-parts (INA).
However upon starting the belt wanders a little bit off the cam pulley as seen in the picture. Tried pushing it back to the middle but it just keeps wandering out evert time I fire the engine up.
Tensioner properly tensioned, same with idler. No play in the Volvo waterpump.
What is wrong, cause I dont think it's supposed to look like this Image?

Any of the pulleys can cause it.
On mine it was the crank pulley.

Yeah, I first figured some pulley had to be the issue. But looking at the other pulleys make me doubt since the belt lies perfectly centered, not a mm outside, on all of them. Even the crank. No wandering anywhere except for the cam, but it doesn't wander back and forth, just out once. The belt was perfectly positioned on the cam pulley before replacing.

Does the belt have direction arrows?

Belt does not have direction arrows but I did put the belt so that the text was readable from right side of engine.
Also undid the tensioner bolt, retorqued it, and now the belt is a few mm closer to the center of the sprocket. Something must have been off the first time..
