Seems like it would be pretty tight clearance from the top with the turbo and accessories already mounted. I took all of that off before pulling the engine; would sure be nice to do all of that prior to installation.

Yeah, I think I stripped as many parts off as I could - including the head, which is where this adventure started - before I lifted the old one out, but I'm not taking anything on this engine off before installation unless I absolutely have to.

I normally pull these engines and transmissions from the top, with the AC compressor and PS pump disconnected so I don't have to drain/evacuate those systems. If you're using a load leveler, it's very doable. Just have to do a little bit of wiggling and tilting.

Life got in the way again. I finally got some things done.

I cleaned up the front subframe:

Then added new mounts and reintalled it in the car:

Then installed the sway bar, steering rack and shift cables:

The next step is to get the exhaust out. Nice of Volvo to WELD the entire thing together...

Volvo didn’t weld it together, that’s on a previous owner

Are you really doing to put that subframe in with that rust?

I was thinking the same. After going to all that work I would have had it painted at least before refitting. Ideally powdercoated before fitting the sub-frame mounts.

Good luck!

No need to powdered coat in those warm climates.

Believe me, I'd absolutely LOVE to vaporblast and powdercoat every single part on this car, chassis included. Unfortunately, something broke inside me last month and now, I JUST WANT MY CAR BACK. I'm sick of looking at it sitting forlornly in the garage, half-apart, surrounded by parts leaned up against walls, stacked on benches, laid in corners, stuffed under the car itself.

Also, I don't have a vaporblasting cabinet or a powdercoating setup, nor do I have the cash for them right now. But not to worry - all the TTY bolts I've replaced are new and installed properly. Everything's sealed and gasketed up nice and tight. It'll be fine.

If it turns out to be a Swedish rat rod, so be it. At least that keeps the car tax on the ground.
