For this application strength is not much of a concern at all and corrosion is a major concern.

Just a quick note to follow up on my rear bumper bracket repair effort. One of the long fender bolts needed to be placed just above the original placement, as corrosion was severe. I ended up finding a long bolt with matching nut at Tractor Supply that served my purposes well. I'll post a picture when I get a chance. Hope you all are well!

And FCP has them on clearance, Clarence. Just bought some for future use, to fill out the shipping quota.

This was a gnarly fight. The basic technique was hot/cold cycling with liberal application of CRC Freeze Off after every heating.. I used a pneumatic die grinder with a really crappy harbor freight grinding point that's terrible for actual grinding, but pretty good at heating up the bolt it's applied to. You can see the dimples in the bolt heads from the grinding. Those tiny divots on the heads are the result of at least 3 minutes of grinding. There was not much cutting, but plenty of heat! I also gave the exposed threads on the other side a similar treatment.

I then sprayed it with the Freeze Off, resulting in a big cloud of fragrant vaporized penetrating oil. Next I changed to the cutting disc to grind away the washer under the bolt head, and whacked the bolt from side to side, crushing and pulverizing the rust in the threads. The final honors were done with an impact wrench on the lowest setting, gently rocking it back and forth.

The next challenge is the rusty remnants of the big bolts stuck in the aluminum part of the bumper.
