Will seats from a gen2 V70 fit in a Gen 1 without modification? Topic is solved

Hi,

The 1998 I bought last weekend has cloth seats that have seen better days. The PO had children and they ate in the car. Also, the PO had dog(s). The seats will never be clean again.

I would like to put in some nice leather ones I saw on Craigslist near me, they are even the right color. But they're from a 2004 XC70.

Will they fit?

No they won't unfortunately, and even if they did, the 99- cars (P80 and P2 models) used a different mechanism for operating the airbags so they are not compatible.

There are pretty decent seat covers for p80 cars available, if I remember correctly. I can't remember who the vendor was, though.

Abscate has reskinned seats using later covers - I think Robert DIY may have a vid, too - but I don't recall the donor year. Others have used S60 skins too. Swedish Car Parts in Chicago has upholstery kits, might be a bit spendy for what you're trying to do.

One trick for the junkyard crawl, since you may be trying to harvest covers, check passenger side seats. In all my cars they're in much better shape, and the bottoms swap without issue, the backs are a bit fiddley.
