Climate control runs cold after 20 min drive

The climate control in my 2008 Mk3 operated normally until 20 mins (or so) into a drive when it runs totally cold. The only way to get any heat into the car is to turn the temperature control up to max and turning the fan speed to very low so I don't cook. Once the car is turned off and started again the system works normally until the next run.
Any suggestions as to what the fault is will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance
