Replaced the evap cooler fan because it was stuck on full blast.

Realized only afterward, when I was researching why it was always on full blast, that I should have used the can of refrigerant on standby first, before replacing the fan, because if the system is low on refrigerant, it will cause the fan to run at full blast always. :-D

Now have a spare fan, and have recharged refrigerant as well.

Yeah normally that would be diagnosed as the blow motor resistor..

Hard to see the point of washing a car with not much paint left on it, but I go through the motions. Got the mud off the bottom at least.

Made the stupid mistake of deciding to finally tackle the 06 XC70 headlights. Some bulbs are just no accessible to replace, especially with big hands. Also dumb ass Volvo design where a tube is directly in front of one of the bulb holders making access impossible.

Having done many, many P80 headlights I expected a simple job. Oh how wrong can you be!!?! :o

You have to first remove the front wheels to give room to get better access to the 2 screws that work the slider plates that hold the back of the bumper in place. Fortunately I had replaced them about 4 years ago, but was disappointed to see they are badly rusted again. LH side worked as it should, right hand side was not keen. Went to remove the 6 top clips to find when the front cover was replaced following a minor fender bender that cracked the panel,. Found the asses that they call professional body repairers had used a cheap copy clip to replace the new original ones I had fitted not long before. These just shatter when you push the centers, the originals are reusable if you are careful. Forgot about the 2 underneath that hold the bumper cover to the fender liner. They had uses some un-removable clip which I had to drill out. While under they found they new bumper was missing a bunch of clips they hadn't bothered to replace.

Finally with my sons help we managed to remove the bumper cover. Found that the RH bumper retainer slider is broken. Clearly an old crack. Fiddlesticks!

Now the headlights. 4 x 8mm hex headed bolts, one hidden inside the bumper retainer which naturally falls down inside it.
Not a problem as Volvo make you un-do the 4 x 8mm bolts that hold the slider retaining panel in place as the headlight won't come out past the plastic section. At this point I discover to remove the headlight you have to separate the large multi-plug behind the headlight. Naturally hidden behind stuff so almost impossible to see how the retaining clip is operated. Small screw driver and adjustable pliers finally persuade them apart. What a faff!!

No I have to order about $120 CDN of parts to re-assemble. Thanks professional body guys!!!!!!!!!

Now just have to polish the headlights and clear coat them, replace all the smaller bulbs and re-fit everything. This simple job on a P80 takes less than an hour and you don't have to remove any parts other then the 2 clips for the side-lights. Where did things go so wrong?

Rant over!

While your headlights are out, it's a good time to check the condition of your alarm siren on your passenger side if you've never checked it out.

Today I changed the oil on both of our cars.

Way stupid to do bulb swaps! Many can be done in place but a few just can't unless maybe you have multi-jointed baby hands with the grip of a pit-bull.

What am I checking on the passenger side? The alarm module? what is that and what does it look like?

Positive today was my local dealer at least had the clips I needed in stock. Well, most not all. Fortunately the rest are to fit where the repair shop left some out. Those can wait, they have for about 3 years or so so far!
