Help please with Diagnostic Codes.

Post by StephenHill »

Hello everyone and thank you for accepting my membership request.
I have a 2007 V70 which appears to have been well minded but needed a few things done recently.
What now remains to be done is to sort out the source of the following diagnostic codes.
ABS -1019, ABS - 0103, ABS - 0136 ,
U1000, PO 201-29 PO 201-25 .
The error message that comes up on the dash is Anti skid needs service.
I have noticed that when I am steering round a corner the power steering appears to fight against me making it feel like the steering is working against me for a couple of seconds. I am used to this but it doesnt feel right and since the power steering has a leak I am wondering if I need to replace the steering rack or are the errors related to the steering angle sensor located in the steering wheel area.
If that sensor is faulty could it contribute to the strange feeling in the steering when not driving straight .
I have put a bit of money into this car already in the hope of getting it working right but I am beginning to wonder have I bought a money pit or am I close to getting it fixed.
Any advice or help would be greatly appreciated.
Kind regards
Stephen Hill

Hi Stephen and welcome to MVS.

Some of these codes can be thrown with low battery voltage or false positives (bit like covid!)

I'm not sure the codes relay to Volvo system codes but looking them up there are some possible sources:

First 3 are ABS system related and link to the anti-skid message. There are some suggestions below:

The pedal sensor does seem to be an issue although the link is to the XC90, it also shows on the S60 as well (all same P2 chassis)

One of the threads suggests that some of the ABS codes can be spurious and a software update can raise the thresholds for tripping the codes.

U1000 is a comms error. This may or may not be an issue but to understand this better will probably need a scan with a Volvo specific reader that can identify if there are any issues with sub-systems not talking to the CANBUS system. You cluld clear it and see if it returns or have is properly scanned and see if there anre any deeper issues.

Last issues look like injector issues. Again I would clear and see if they re-set.

Neil.

All three times I had an anti-skid message it ended up being the ABS tone rings (mounted on front axles, and on rear located within the wheel bearing). Obviously you need an ABS capable code reader to figure out which wheel is throwing the code though. Not sure if any of those codes point in that direction though. This is the reluctor/abs ring that I purchased (I bought 2 to do both sides), for my rear bearing I bought the SKF one:

Much of my time during the job is spent hauling things up and down the stairs to the basement or in and out of the storage shed, or running back downstairs when I realize I need something else,or taking a break from standing out in the sun,or using flashlights or work lamps when it gets dark.
