Our 122 bumpers are made from steel and then chromed like the original.

You can find all bumpers for the 122 here.

I ran across a page for the Apple Farmer Racing Team, which is based in the US Pacific Northwest, and ran a highly prepared 122 coupe in the historic La Carrera Panamericana race which runs the length of Mexico (or it did in the early days, maybe not now). They had some great mechanics, obviously the owner / driver, and Phil Singher of VClassics Motorsport - the wizard of B18 / B20 cylinder heads - was part of the build team.

http://www.applefarmerracing.com/car.html

Modified crank for less friction, aluminum & steel timing gears, electronic ignition, lightweight flywheel, Isky lifters / pushrods / valve springs, ARP hardware, 4-2-1 header, custom intake for BIG 48 Weber carbs, Ross 11:1 pistons, head porting, Schneider Racing cam with wide torque band, all producing big torque, high altitude reliability, and 7500 rpm redline.

Chassis was reinforced, a full cage built, 1800E limited slip rear axle with ratios changed, 1800 front hubs and brakes, Ipd sway bars, overdrive transmission with 1800 shifter, one-piece driveshaft, VPD (?!?) street performance springs for rough roads, poly bushings, Willwood 4-piston brake calipers, Cibie lights, .

This is interesting - they needed big air horns on the carbs. This don't fit inside the fender, much less with a filter. They built an airbox, cut out the fender wall, and patched it. Because the remote oil filter blocked the path to a forward intake, they ran hoses to a filter box where the battery was, then up to the cowling vents where there's positive pressure.

They had clutch problems and the gearbox had to come out.

Racing in MX would be an incredibly fun thing to do. In the 90s I drove a (crappy by today's standards) sand rail in Baja on the terrain (maybe actual trails) of the Baja 500/1000 courses. Of course this isn't the same as road racing, but from being down there so much in my youth I can tell you the scenery and people are off the charts.

Here are some vintage 80s-90s Baja 1000 posters I found in an ice cream shop in San Ignacio last summer when I took my son down there. The owner is a big fan and friends with some of those drivers.

When I was a kid, we loved Broncos. My dad had one, my first car was a beater Bronco I put a new engine in with my Montgomery Wards socket set, and my old brother had one.

So I loved the Bill Stroppe Baja Broncos, which were essentially tube-framed race cars with a Bronco body fabricated onto it. They were Ford factory supported. Parnelli Jones did a lot of driving and winning.
