I recently installed a 7 inch double DIN head unit in my 1998 S70, I also purchased a back up camera and want ed to know if anyone has done this before and what the best route to take to the trunk is? I want to keep the wire as hidden as possible as the car is in great shape considering it was garage kept by my great grandparents until I was given it in 2018.
I try to keep it immaculate, I only replaced the head unit because of the Cassette player dying on me.
I tested the backup camera by wiring straight to the battery and it worked fine for that.
I know I'm going to have to tap into the power off of the reverse lights to get power, and the camera wire through the license plate light or drill a small hole somewhere on the trunk door...
I don't have much knowhow on cars or wiring, just what I can find from reading forums and. watching on youtube.
Any and all advice would be helpful, thank you in advance.

My camera I fitted to my 2003 4Runner is on a bracket that mounts behind the rear licence plate and due to the design of the tailgate it is fairly well hidden.
Does your 98 have the trunk key lock installed? Some of the later cars just have a dummy which you could use. Either that or go to a junk yard and see if you can find another latch assembly and gut it, drill a suitable sized hole in the back panel and install the camera in there?
Neil.

Recommendation? Sure.
Every time I want to use my backup-camera-equipped daily driver (2016 Focus ST), I walk around it once to make sure nothing's behind it. Then I don't need a backup camera.

After > 50 years of driving , it’s hard to adapt to using a camera for reversing.
