Transmission help 01 V70 2.4T Auto

Post by LachD789 »

I have recently done a drain and fill on my auto V70 using Mobil 3309. I drained exactly 3.5L and put the same amount back in. I checked the fluid level before the drain by driving for 30mins to warm it up then checked while running and the fluid level was correct. I drove the same route and checked again after the drain and fill and now the dipstick shows it to be overfilled by about an inch even though I put the exact same amount of fluid back in. Should I drain some of the fluid or just leave it?

Not to split hairs, but when I drain my tranny fluid, I almost always drain it hot. Probably around 200 degrees F(guessing). If I measure that hot oil in a pyrex beaker like I have at home, the same container of oil will go down in volume to lets say 60 degrees F the next day when it cools off. I use to do temperature compensation in the fuel oil business and "roughly" fuel oil gains or looses about 1% for every 20 degrees F. (Back when it was fuel oil 10 years ago).
So for me over here in USA, an 8% change in volume would be about 8 of our ounces.
All my numbers above are just approximations, while actually calibrating fuel oil trucks involved correction factors for every degree for a specific petroleum product.
But 8 ounces differences from 200 degrees F to 60 degrees F could be pretty close. Also 8 ounces overfilled will show on the dip stick. Over here with Quarts, I add 3 and 1/3 quart of trans fluid and check it after a long drive. Seems to work for me.
