Vacillating Transmission Fluid Levels

Post by miriamsully »

My transmission fluid shows as being right where it should be when I first check it, but if I check it a second time it's an inch and a half further up the stick. I've been checking it with my car level and running, and I've been waiting until my car is all warmed up, but this happens every time I check the fluid level. Any idea what would cause that?

My 02 does the same, but reads in the lower cold range when first pulled out. After I clean the dip stick and reinsert it, it shows all the way to the top. I check it only after driving for at least 30 minutes and sitting perfectly level.

Air pressure buildup in transmission's oil sump. You want to check the level on the dipstick when the pressure is relieved. If it's 1.5 inches higher than indicated marks - it's definitely overfilled.
