P2 front wheel bearing Timken, SKF or FAG ? 31329980

I finally need to do a hub bearing, front left on the 07 XC70.

I know Timken, SKF or FAG are all good quality, but they also always price out like thi$:
Timken > SKF > FAG

FCP site says all three are OE for the 07 P2.

Is Timken really higher quality than the other two - opinions?

Very happy with my SKG rear bearing that I replaced in 2019. Just my 2c. Good price on Rockauto.

Yep that's where I was going with this - Timken @ RA is same price as FAG @ FCP. I can risk the warranty disadvantage on this one.

I’ve used FAG for all my hub replacements, N= 6 on various S/v70

I may have done one replacement/ replacement with about 120k on it

Don’t forget to add the internal seal, if applicable

FAG.

For SKF check the country of origin. P3 Volvos are plagued with SKF not-Sweden.

Timken is (was) also known to be good. I haven't used their wheel bearings in particular, but alternator bearings with the right index (high-temp, high-speed) are top notch,

Timken used to be a good brand, just like SKF when they are made in Europe. Same can be said for FAG. Can't speak for non-Europe made items.

I ordered one, went with FAG.

Can I also access/swap the ABS tone ring during this job, without removing the axle? They are pretty rusty, have replacements in the garage already.

Definitely. I did both my fronts without axle removal. But they already failed and fell straight off. You might have to dremel yours off carefully. Clean off the axles mating surface well with a wirebrush. My indy says put green permatex on the surface but I just heated my new tone ring up in the oven and used the old one to set the new one in gently but firmly, kind of like when youre replacing a bearing or seal. Good 3 years later still.

I don’t recall needing to put on a dust seal on my SKG. Hope I didn’t set myself up for another failure.

I always used FAG bc they have good reputation.
SKF and Timken are also good brands but as above, watch for QC issues.

Bearing job is usually involved, so I play safe and stay with FAG in my BMWs and Volvos...

I like SKF. Maybe because they are or where (?) swedish from the beginning anyway. Svenska Kullager Fabriken
