1993 940 AC fan doesn't always blow

Post by streamwader »

I have a 1993 940 wagon w/ 150,000 miles. The AC fan doesn't always blow. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. Any help with this problem would be greatly appreciated!

Welcome to Matthew's Volvo Site.

Is the system automatic (Electronic Climate Control) or manual (Manual Climate Control)?

It is a manual climate control. I think it might be some kind of short in the wire.

Hi
If its anything like my 91 model 740, the AC/Heater Fan often can get water trapped in it. Leaves and other debris find their way into the fan from the grill in front of the windscreen (I believe).

There is a drain hose coming out of the fan well for removing condensation which is often formed in the A/C process. The leaves and other debris that have found their way into the fan area can block the drain hose. Get under your car and stick a wire up through it (watch you do't get wet) to unblock it..

The moister can affect the electrical motor here.

I have read about other problems regarding the fan. Check the trouble shooting section on this website, along with those on the brickboard site.

Check out:

Good Luck.

Thanks for the tips. I was able to take a look at it yesterday when I got home from work. All I did was to jiggle the wires to the blower, and then it started blowing! If only other things were that easy.
