Neil - Can't remember where the lug nut issue was raised, but I just looked at Poor Old Blue, it has the steel wheel lugs, they were black oxide finished instead of cad plated, but are the short head style. A bit rusty, since the car is resting under the Pin Oak, let me know how bad yours are ?

I was just going to suggest a smoke test but at the end of your post you came to the same conclusion. I understand the pressure must be very minimal, 1 - 2 psi. I wish you luck.

Still no further on this. Now have to work out how to get the car to the dealer. I had a chat with the Service Manager who I have known for many years first as a good mechanic and now a manager. What we have agreed is an hours diagnostic fee to smoke the system, but I will clear the rear floor area so they can access the access floor panel to the fuel pump area to try to get better viewing access at the top of the tank. Considering the number of years that issue has been there he says it could be a tiny pin hole so may be a challenge.
I had a look at that roll over valve when at the junkyard as the 00 FWD they had has the newer electronic version that is powered and attached to the carrier to the rear carbon canister. The version on this 98 and older 850's is just some king of rattle ball that is non-powered and would appear to have the ball roll into place to stop the fuel flow in the event the car turns over. Not sure how that could cause the issue other than the pipe to and from it.
On a side note, as someone else mentioned the part appeared to have a Chrysler pentastar logo on it. I looked it up based on the part number and found it was fitted to 70's and 80's Jeeps. Part is NLA, but Collins jeep has them for $45!! in 2009 this part was on sale for $6!!
Neil.
