Hi all - Helping my stepson out here - If anyone can give us some insight, see photos and his description below:
"I had gotten home & I was backing up into my spot when I suddenly started hearing a scraping noise under me, so I parked in, checked to see the problem and I found a rusted latch in the mid-front section of the car. I have no idea how it broke or what it is, I just noticed when I parked. I have no idea whether it's an important piece or not, but now I can’t back up or drive without worrying it might break and break the car further"
My questions for you all:
- What is it?
- Can it be driven as is for short trips? for the time being?
- Can it be fixed (relatively inexpensively)?
Many thanks in advance

First question -
Is this in the wrong forum? Are those pics from an XC wagon?
I don’t have mine home to go out and look, and I’m not finding that shape in the parts diagrams, but it looks like either an exhaust or cat support, or a chassis brace that fits across the bottom of the driveline tunnel. Appears to be just aft of the front subframe.
Did this rust and fall off, or did you drag bottom and tear it off?

Oh no - definitely IS in the wrong forum. I will try to move it or delete it. I am assuming based on his response that it rusted off.
Thanks for the response - Again, sorry for the post to the wrong sub forum.

I can't find it. Did someone take out the cat?
It's not this...
This MVS post looking forward on the floor to what look like a couple of chassis braces across the tunnel. (This might not be an AWD)... Here's a post with some of what looks like your piece, but it's an XC90....

Here's the exhaust on an '04 XC. It doesn't look like 4, 11, or 21. Here's the forward floor assembly....?.....It's not 5, 5a, or 12.
