Rubbish, Ben--you see under your user name it says "Senior Forum Member". It's guys like you, and others who do major restorations and readily share your knowledge through photos and DIYs who are the anchors of this site.

Hi I'm like super super fresh to this here site but it's always popping up while I'm looking for helpful info with doing stuff to my new used 1998 Volvo v70 wagon. I scored her for free from a older woman who use to live at my work/home and she got it from her mom who passed away and she drove it here to my work/home parked it in our covered parking area and didn't start it for 5 years or so. So... I am afraid to start it with all the very old fluids that have been just sitting in it. I did replace the battery and it seems like it's going to start up fine but I'm still very concerned about letting all this old fluids get worked into the whole engine/motor and other systems. So I'm looking for some help as to how I should go about getting it ready to finally start her up. I'm limited on money so I will do the work that I can myself, being I'm a woman every guy likes to try to offer their help but I'm more than familiar with working on cars and using a Chilton to get a job done. So all I need is some simple instructions on how to maybe drain the old fuel and of course I have the oil change and filter change in mind next and can handle that one fine but what else should be done please help me.

Pull up the dipstick and take a picture of the oil so we can see how much water is in it. Be ready to turn it off quickly in case the oil filter case lets loose and springs oil.

Gas doesn’t really go bad enough for a no start while sitting in sealed fuel systems.

These engines are really tough and will be fine starting up on old fluids. It’s likelybrakes will need a lot of rework as they will rust up

Any gurus in Washington nearby who can help out?

1. Don’t worry about the gas

2 dump old oil, put in 5 liters of a cheap synthetic and a new oil filter.

3 try the key!
