Keep the car and spread out the maintenance. 180k is not high miles yet and it sounds like it doesn't see high annual mileage with you. It will last years so spreading out the maintenance costs is a no-brainer.
I might also expect AWD issues (you can let it go to FWD or fix it, expensive), steering angle sensor (again, fix, put off or ignore).
A 200k Volvo P80 or P2 with both engine (valve) and transmission problems is unusual. Don't be scared off by that prospect, you'd probably know by now if you had that kind of lemon or poor maintenance history from previous owner.

Thank you, I do not have any awd problems test, even the collar sleeve seems to be fine. Will keep observing.erikv11 wrote: ↑31 May 2022, 08:37 Keep the car and spread out the maintenance. 180k is not high miles yet and it sounds like it doesn't see high annual mileage with you. Its frustrating to read that, as mine has both, but not enough to bother about doing anything about it yet!erikv11 wrote: ↑31 May 2022, 08:37 Keep the car and spread out the maintenance. 180k is not high miles yet and it sounds like it doesn't see high annual mileage with you. Mine was looked after by a Volvo specialist in the UK for approx 120k miles and 18 years. Serviced / MOT every year and repairs.
However, they did not replace the PCV and instead re-did the cam-seal (treating symptoms and not the cause) and also didn't spot split wishbone bushes or replace them.
I think they just changed the oil and did anything drastic needed for the MOT each year. Perhaps it was the owners who wanted to skimp on maintenance a bit, who knows....

Sorry to hear that. When I changed my PCV system I saw some aftermarket parts, so it must have been changed at some point before.Willber wrote: ↑01 Jun 2022, 02:02 Mine was looked after by a Volvo specialist in the UK for approx 120k miles and 18 years. Serviced / MOT every year and repairs.
