More electrical problems

Post by NWONTFWPLT »

Hi all!

I have been having issues for a few weeks now. Turn key to position 2 and I get 'brake failure stop safely' and immobilizer. Also shift lock solenoid clicks quite a bit. I can start the vehicle sometimes if I don't 'pause' at position 2 and start it quickly. I don't have VIDA/DICE but I do have the Icarsoft. I get no communication with the BCM, DEM, or ECM. Battery seems ok and alternator charging well. I'm thinking the CEM is bad since i have a failure of the BCM, ECM, and DEM all at the same time? how to I proceed from here?

Thanks in advance for all help!

as a follow up I completed the xemodex flowcharts for BCM and DEM and according to the results they are both defective as I found power everywhere I was supposed to. car is old and just using around town - can I drive it with DEM disconnected? besides no longer being AWD are there any other effects?

Get Vida hooked up and troubleshoot the Bus. One bad component can take out multiple modules

thanks for the reply! the info i'm getting from the ICARSOFT seems pretty comprehensive. if it can't communicate with the BCM/DEM/ECM is there anything that Vida would read differently?

Where are you in Ontario ? I've got VIDA but I'm all the way down in Windsor. And to be honest I'm not sure if it would do much more than your reader. If the modules just flat out aren't communicating, VIDA might not see them on the bus either.

I'd try the CEM overheating flowchart on XeModex too if you can. I believe there's also the option of disconnecting modules one at a time to find out which one is causing the others to not talk. I believe Xemodex does a free diagnosis if you send in your part. I think they're in Mississauga if I recall correctly, maybe you could try and drop off your BCM/ECM/CEM and they could run a bench test.

Much of my time during the job is spent hauling things up and down the stairs to the basement or in and out of the storage shed, or running back downstairs when I realize I need something else,or taking a break from standing out in the sun,or using flashlights or work lamps when it gets dark.
