sunroof drains

Post by egauto »

hello all, i have a 2001 S60 and am getting water ingress whenever it rains. i cannot locate where the end of the sunroof drain hose is on the front passenger side. i have located a drain hose that goes from the blower motor to the floor and thats it. the videos i have seen show a different setup not what i have. any help would be greatly appreciated.

- Look carefully, you will see the FRONT drain holes. Best is during noon with full sun or use a flash light.

- Then use the grass trimming spool, the plastic stuff used in grass trimmer.
Very cheap at hardware stores. Use it to poke the drain hose.

- Then test with a few cups of water...

I know about the holes in front of the sunroof pan. I am looking for the other end of the hose where it goes thru the body of the car, with the rubber fitting on the end? That I cannot find. I am probably going to end up running another hose from the pan to the outside of the car

- My 2005 XC90 SR drain hose is exposed once the A pillar trim is off. So it is easy on the 2005 XC90.

- In contrast, the S60 SR drain hose runs INSIDE the metal frame, very difficult to get to.
It has a rubber elbow at the end to prevent critters from getting in, the same design also causes clog from SR grime/dirt etc.

- Best is to use the grass trimmer and poke it, you will unclog it. Very easy to do...

I have successfully used a steel guitar string as a snake to clear the sunroof drains. I use the smaller ones on motorcycle carb port cleaning.

I read that advice somewhere and tried a G string, unsuccessfully. I later realized I misunderstood
