You'll be able to use the transmission from the S60, but that's about it. The pedals, shifter, cables, etc. are all different for the 850. I believe the '96 has the speed signal from the ABS, but if not, you'll need a solution for the speedometer. You can just use any manual 850 ECU, and this would probably be a good time to upgrade to M4.4 if your car is still M4.3.2ndGenVolvos wrote: 26 Jul 2021, 01:12 I've got a 96 850 Turbo that I am planning on swapping to Manual. I've got an 01 S60 NA with an m56 that my cousin gave me to part out after he bought a new car. What parts can I pull and use from this car and which should I look to buy new from my local dealership? Also, is there a specific ECU I should buy? Or will I need a custom tune since the M56 I will be using has an internal slave cylinder? Thanks!

Are there any other parts I can use besides the transmission itself? Can I use the clutch assembly? Or am I better off buying one? there is a guy north of me that sells swap kits but I'd like to save some money where possible since I'm a student and thus on a student budget.bmdubya1198 wrote: 26 Jul 2021, 10:13You'll be able to use the transmission from the S60, but that's about it. Yeah, the clutch and flywheel can also be swapped over, but I would recommend a new clutch. That car has a dual mass flywheel, and while a single mass is better, the dual mass will work just fine. Unless it’s badly worn, it’ll be fine to use.2ndGenVolvos wrote: 26 Jul 2021, 21:42

I'll check out the clutch and flywheel once I pull parts from the car. I'm not sure if I'll go SMF or DMF. I like the idea of an SMF but I feel like the DMF would be better for daily driving. I've never driven a car with an SMF though, so I have no real frame of reference. Thanks for answering my questions!

If you are going to daily drive it and run it long term, cry once and get the DMF. They last forever

I'm not sure if I'll daily it. I have an 07 S40 T5 AWD manual that I've been driving but its been wildly unreliable. It had an engine swap at some point prior to me owning it and the guy who built the motor is a total hack. I might reserve the 850 for summer driving if I can afford to keep both cars.abscate wrote: 27 Jul 2021, 11:35 If you are going to daily drive it and run it long term, cry once and get the DMF. The SMF can be a little chattery. The DMF is a little smoother. The advantage with the SMF is the lighter weight, the DMF is quite a bit heavier.

That is interesting. Given my limited knowledge of the two, I'd assume that the SMF would be a little heavier. I think I'm leaning towards a SM though because my S40 has got a DMF and I'd like to experience a SMF. If it goes wrong quickly, I can always put a DMF in next time. Although that would be a pain in the ass, I have access to a shop since my dad is shop foreman at the local volvo dealership.bmdubya1198 wrote: 27 Jul 2021, 18:57 The SMF can be a little chattery.
