Wondering what to do? 1998 S70 blown head gasket
My 1998 S70 GLT has been a wonderful car and I have taken very good care of it with regular maintainance, and have upgraded/improved it over the years. It has no rust, new upgraded 17" Volvo wheels with practically new tires, numerous IPD upgrades, formidable after market touch screen receiver unit, etc., etc. Even with over 272,000 miles, it has continued to run strong and a real joy to drive. It now has a blown head gasket and I don't know whether it is worth dealing with the time and cost of repairs or to try to sell it as is. Any thoughts from you guys? Thank you.

Sounds like you're above the average of the Volvo Love Index™. Not everybody is, and I wouldn't suggest this to anyone below the average... so I'd fix it.

In the current used car climate $2500 will buy you a problematic beater
That same $2500 on a cylinder head job will give you another 150,000 miles of life in your GLT
You can get that down to $600 or so with your labour

Yep, based on my research, I'm figuring around $800-850 for parts and the head re-do. I've removed the head in the past years ago, so.......
Thanks for your thoughts.

Valve stem seals …Volvo only parts. Lurking in these Fora is a secret part number for ordering these in a set at roughly 30% discount

Machine shop with the head, inspect valves, new seals, etc. as you almost certainly would. If head is good (likely) go for it and do all the little stuff needed while the head is off and you can poke around the engine at will.
