Yeah I’m very familiar since I replaced wifes xc70 3x last year with a crappy rebuild and Chinese regulator. Ended up getting a brand new Bosch one that my mechanic had on the shelf. I’ll be seeking a Bosch branded regulator in the rebuild for my car.
Today at the gas station after fueling the XC it wouldn’t start for a few times. Cranking very strongly but just not firing up. It finally sputtered alive weakly and came fully alive after giving some gas. Couldn’t reproduce it again today. Going to see if anything threw a code…
What did you do to your P2 Volvo today?

But you can't rebuild alternator for $100. Quality bearings, pulley, slip rings, rectifier, voltage regulator are way over $100 just in parts. I wouldn't be even looking at sub-$300 rebuilt alternator.
Or are you talking about replacing the voltage regulator only? For P2 in 2022 it would make sense to rebuild alternator properly. I regret I was cheap a few years ago and didn't replace the rectifier. Now the car is asking to pull the alternator again.

This is why I don’t understand the huge influx of new threads asking about just replacing the regulator. There are so many other components that can fail in the alt. Why throw $100 at it with a regulator when something else is guaranteed to fail soon after? Doing the job twice sucks and is expensive. /rantvtl wrote: ↑30 Jun 2022, 08:34But you can't rebuild alternator for $100. I fully realize how ironic my post is considering how many cheap aftermarket parts i’ve thrown at my cars. But like you note, the alternator is a no-brainer to go quality on. All of my chinese regs failed within 24hours.

so I finally sealed the leak at the cat to resonator flange. The flange bolt holes were rotted away.
, I put a split coupler on each side of the joint,
a 3 inch section of 63mm pipe inserted (hammered) in the cat side,
resonator side is slightly bigger , the flange bolts drew it together.

Very much doubt for how long this fix will work, without good 4-5 layers of duct tape!

I replaced the rear stabilizer links on the XC. I was going to do the Haldex filter and fluid exchange today, but that just turned out to be fluid. I didn’t feel comfortable with my ability to get the top 4mm screw back in and tightened on the filter cover w/ that spring pushing out against it. It’s a real tight space even with my little Chapman ratcheting tool. I did suck out about 200ml of fluid out of the fill hole. The fluid I extracted looked pretty good. It was darker than the new fluid, but still translucent. I just put approx. 200ml of new fluid back in and called it a day. The XC is running and driving real nice. I’m going to get my S60 ready to sell in the next week or two. Basically I need to stop procrastinating and take some pictures. I’m not looking forward to the Craigslist experience.
