Major electrical fail 2004 s60r

Post by Jerrycan »

I have had a major electrical fail after having to 'jump' start using a battery pack booster. I had to leave the car for 3 weeks in a hotel car park and on my return the battery was completely flat. Not the first time it's happened so I carry a small boost battery pack. It started the car ok but now have a list of things not working.
Not working,
No instruments, steering wheel controls except horn and wipers (although only on single speed and no washers), central looking, interior lights except in footwear, electric windows.
What is working
Engine, headlights/running lights although main beam and headlight flasher not working, brake lights, heater fan.

I've checked every fuse and the supply to each fuse box and all is as it should be.

Completely run out of ideas now and any help would be much appreciated.

Disconnect the battery negative lead. Leave the car for 20 minutes. Put your key into position 2. Connect the battery. This is the “correct” battery disconnect/reconnect procedure. Remove key, shut door, and lock/unlock the vehicle 3 times with the fob.

Start with that and let us know if that improves anything.

Much of my time during the job is spent hauling things up and down the stairs to the basement or in and out of the storage shed, or running back downstairs when I realize I need something else,or taking a break from standing out in the sun,or using flashlights or work lamps when it gets dark.

Thanks for the reply, I have tried that and unfortunately the key fob still does nothing. The only way I can lock/unlock is with the key and that doesn't operate any of the other doors or the boot/trunk or the petrol tank flap. Plus all the other non functioning items are still not working. The car is heading off to a main dealer now!
