Humming noise from A/C controls / 2000 S80 2.9

Post by joseb »

I know this may sound strange but in the mornings before I start the car, even wihtout the key in the ignition, I hear a humming noise coming from the A/C controls, once I start the car and turn the A/C on it takes some 3 to 5 minutes for the noise to stop. It does not start until I stop the car for a time period (more than 15 min ???) and if I tried to re-start the car it comes back again.
It is not anoying, as it is not loud and it goes off quite quickly. Someone who is new to the car may not notice it if the car is turned on.

Does anyone have an idea of what this could be??.

Thanks,

Jose

You have a vacuum leak. One of the lines isn't seated to the controls.

Is this something that I can take apart for myself or do I need to take it to the dealer?

Thanks,

Jose

Look around the engine compartment for small white tubes, and the elbows that connect them. These are vacuum lines. They crack after a time, and then they let in air that distorts readings that make quite a few things work right on your Volvo.

Thanks for the answer, luckily enough for me I took my car for normal service and asked about this, they said it was the small electrical blower at the temp sensor in the A/C controls.

Extended warranty took care of it :) with no charge to me, well I guess I will still pay the 50$. I am picking it up this afternoon.

Regards,

Jose

Final note, the cost for changing this including labor at the dealer would be +/- US$70.00, this is what the invoce showed (extended warranty paid)
