2001 S60 T5 Crank No Start

Post by 2volvos0life »

Hey everyone, I recently bought another 2001 s60 after loving my N/A, this time a t5 and its sort of a project you could say haha.

I bought it cheap and thought nothing to worry about as I have another car for parts. Soon after I started to work on it I found a few things.

So the starter wire was like a bit corroded and needed to be cleaned, did that and now it cranks everytime reliably.

I fell for the fuel pump seeing videos and should have researched it more but I bought a replacement from fcp and installed it, along with a new fuel filter.

Turns out its the fuel pump relay or at least thats my best guess, because if I bypass the relay by jumping it, I can hear the fuel pump start and otherwise like it will not go, only when jumped.

I tried switching the relay with a known good one, same part number and everything from my other car, and still nothing.

When I jump the fuel pump I can start the car and it runs although not great, but this could also be due to like old hoses or the pcv system or something?

Ive heard that the fuel pump runs at all times while the car is on on these models, so in that case would I be able to just setup a switch to like flip on the fuel pump? In my head it seems like the cem or something must control the fuel pressure somehow, but there is no fuel pressure sensor or anything on 2001 models??

And if i wanted to use the relay would it be worth trying the CEM from my other s60? Its not a t5 but still 2001.

I used a multimeter and got something like 12.1v checking the relay connections.

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. I love these cars but wow they can get complicated!
