2000 S70 AWD Bad Bearing? Hub? Transmission?

Calling all Gurus:

We have a 2000 S70 AWD. Begins making grinding/whirring noise from front end at 25-30MPH. Sounds like (don't laugh, I'm doing my best here): RA-na-na-na-na-nee-nee-nee -neeee, respectively, as speed increases. Noise continues on deceleration (interestingly, continues below the speed at which it started) until decelerating through about 10 MPH where it ends with a frightening "clun-clank!" which can be felt as well as heard. Noise then disappears untill accelerating back through 25-30 MPH again. Etc. Etc.

Anyone familiar?

Sounds like a hub/wheel baring to me. Only solution is to change out the hub.

New twist: Drove the car yesterday to more clearly define symptoms. Grind/Whine was still apparent starting at 25 mph or so with klunk deceleratedn through about 10mph. However, on the second run up to 25+ mph, I gently applied the parking brake after the whine started, which resulted in the "klunk" at speed. After that, the grind/whine persisted as previously described, but the klunk disappeared and never repeated itself.

Thoughts?
