Yes quiet. A lot of people tend to remove mufflers and resonators etc to get a more “sporty” sound. When you’re 40+ you kind of want it as quiet as possible.
EDIT: at least thats my opinion. I even invested in expensive Bridgestones for the bmw that don’t transfer so much road noise. I also put Noico sound deadening material in all four doors. Whenever it’s time for a new roof liner I’ll put Noico in the roof too.
Car is nice n quiet. Can listen to music on the freeway without having to turn the volume knob to max. Very relaxing.
What did you do to your Volvo today? Topic is solved

Well, I had a bad day. My power steering rack return line was always tight on the timing belt cover, and today ot machined through from the inside, exploded the cover, flipped the timing belt, and ruined my 5k old valve job cylinder head.
The good news is I was 500 meters from the shop where Caitlin’s car was ready, after a 200 mile drive. Dog and I pushed car to side of road, walked to shop, and picked up ride home.
I went back after work and tow strapped her home the last 5 miles.
She will live again , again

Wow, that blows! Now I want to check that hose to make sure it's not touching the timing cover. Fortunately mine should be out of the way, since I have the 2005+ reservoir.

I'm sorry, that does indeed sound like a rotten day.... most discouraging, I'm sure. How is it that cars/engines hit guys right in the feels???abscate wrote: ↑12 Jul 2022, 18:54 Well, I had a bad day. Now I'm worried. Any chance of a pic to see what rubbed where ? I don't recall off hand a power steering line near my cover.

It’s a 1999 thing. The power steering return line comes up to the right side of engine/ rear of car on the “ bastards” but the -1998 come forward with the supply.
Still evaluating , too early for root failure analysis
Remember I have an aftermarket rack brand new on this car too. I did put a new Volvo return line on it, tolerances might have added up though.
The beauty of the last refurb is there is no question of scrapping/ selling vs rework
Map attached to show how nice this worked out! Free recovery!
If I had been deep in backwater MA or CT this recovery could have cost 3x the head job
