Yet another ABS Problem

Post by kallekula »

 Yet another abs problem . Ive been searching the interwebs but most i find is the BCM solder repair of the bcm which was done (by nocansolder me years ago).
However, there are no ETM, ETS etc lights on.
I believe the problem is internal to the “brake distributor block”. Funny thing is I think I can pin point when it happened (years ago) : i slammed the brakes to avoid an accident. When doing this I could almost feel in the foot that something gave at the same time as the brake pedal slowly was pressed down into the floor. I can testrun the pump motor which sounds horrible and is probably in need of some lube. Brakes are just bad. Car starts rolling in traffic from stand still etc. Bad weak brakes. I recently replaced the brake master cylinder but no cigar.
So, is it possible to only replace the block with the exact productnr as mine or can I pick anyone as long as those magneto pins matches the BCM?
Thank you for looking.

I’ve got a 2000 block and motor off Jane I can send you. Pm me shipping or I’m out west in a few weeks

I don’t like the diagnosis though, unless you can see brake fluid in the block or leaking ??

it doesn’t leak a drop. It must be that big aluminum block. Quiestion is if all the numbers on the new block matches the old one.

It’s a 1999 2000 part only. It is the first yearwith independent rear braking, right and left

You guys inthe OC might not feel the ABS that often on dry pavement. You will feel funny broken stuff in your foot when it activates

If the pedal is loose, flush all the calipers and look for air first, before you tear into to big block

Pedal doesn’t sink, I vacuum tested booster, new master cylinder.
Back to the question, must the product number of the “blocks” match? Just like the BCM numbers must match if you have dstc or something else??
Thank you for looking.

EDIT: I remember someone mentioned brake hoses could break down internally and may cause a “stop” in the line? Not sure about it because when I looked at this brake problem a while ago all lines flushed fine.

Digging into this, there are three components here but it doesn’t look like all three are orderable from Volvo

Black cylindrical PUMP motor, provides into for pump
Aluminum BLOCK containing valves and centrifugal pump

Black plastic ABS module...mattymoo is the go to for this repair or replace

I ***** think ***** only the module requires matching no/TRACS/ STC

I have taken the pump off a block and swapped, putting the pump back in is a bit of pig but doable.

Pictures from volvoparts we store below, annotated.
