I found that on my 98 S70 couple days after I bought it. Went to open it & the latch broke. My first introduction to Volvo plastic.

That's how I found it. Reading the manual. Car came with original manual, receipts & window sticker. Car spent it's first 4 years in Connecticut before coming to Oregon.

The German word for that rear shelf is Hutablage, literally meaning shelf for your hat.
