I really do need a better tripod - or need to be on something less shaky than the back porch

Managed to catch a lightning bolt from the Chem Department at Stony Brook

This intrigued me as I thought these bolts where microsecond phenomena, and so a 1/60 second shutter speed st a frame rate of 30 Hz shouldnt capture it very often.

It turns out there is a huge range of propagation times and distances and sparkologists last year recorded new records in both time and duration; 17 seconds and 177 KM !!

Knowledge increases!

Lakeside Amusement Park in 2017, "Rock o Plane" ride, four second exposure. I can't remember if I had my tripod or set the camera on a railing.

A few years ago I photographed the Sun with a 100mm garden-variety lens on my fancy Nikon. Wildfires every summer make occasional days where everything is orange, all day. It's really strange, disorenting. Anyway, this is from 2017. What happened when I zoomed in? Sunspots!

I looked it up to make sure it wasn't dust, and sure enough they matched with the sunspots visible to Earth on that day/time. True story.

Today's photo: A well kept farmstead in Scotland.
An observation from a Kansas farm boy: It does not appear Scotland has heavy rains that cause erosion. They do not have bare ground along streams or use erosion control field terraces (raised dikes along the field contour lines) to slow water flow down slope.

Nice shot, VLN. Yea, no arroyos in Scotland :D.

I get the impression from your photos that you really, truly found your trip(s) to Scotland to be fun and interesting.
