Do you know if it is possible to disassemble the shifter and replace parts?
I don't think I'll be able to get a replacement T5-R shifter knob, but can I swap the wood part onto a normal one (or the other way)? Like this one: 6843475
https://www.skandix.de/en/spare-parts/d ... l/1071414/
The black rubber/plastic part is just breaking up on the knob. I was able to glue it for a while, but the high temps cause it to just crumble if you touch it. Tried melting it together with a soldering iron which worked, but now it is softer and sticky and still wearing away.
My other idea is to remove the shifter and try to build the part up using epoxy and or PU glue.

I have never seen a shifter know like that! Is it the hot temperatures you are getting that is causing that?
You can remove and replace the button on the shifter but not sure how much further you can make it disassemble.
There should be shifters for sale out there in better condition for less than the Skandix one.
I just did a thread about 5 days ago about an issue replacing the knob, that shifter is a wood one. If you are really stuck I may have one that may not be 100% perfect but is better than yours is. I will have to check what I still have as there are different wood types and most of mine will be from P80 V/S 70's.

Can't say why it is like that, it was always broken and I had it glued together... but now it is entirely brittle. I think it is the heat. I know to be carefull with it, I had it at a shop for inspection and they always brake it further
Ok, I was thinking a used one might also have bad pastic...
A used 850 shifter with some kind of wood would be good, but not sure I can find one. The s/v70 shifters seem to be a bit different.

Just found a T5-r shifter on ebay kleinanzeigen, it looks just as broken as mine. I think I will try and build it up with some PU glue.

I believe the gear shift knobs are the same on 850's and V/S70's, the only difference is the boot below them. I have pictures of the V/S 70 somewhere and will post when I find them.

Now I don't think I still have all of these as one went to abscate and another to misha. But you can see the actual shape of the units:
I do have a couple of replacement buttons for some of these which are on the 'project' list!

Many thanks. So I assume you would be willing to sell? I did look a bit in the online places but didn't find more than 1 or 2. If so let me think on it a bit, and I'll shoot you a pm once I know, if that's alright.
I do know having a different colored wood insert would annoy me to no end.

Yes it would make me feel bad too! If I have a correct colored one then naturally I will sell it as I have no need for wood ones as my car has no wood finishing inside.
It may take me a week to find them. I know where they are but it is under a huge pile in my basement as we were having the garage floor sealed!

Well, wanted to try and fix it today, but as I kept going the chunks just came off
So I'll be rocking that skeleton shifter for now, actually does not look too bad. And it is not sticky and crumbling everywhere. Sadly the inserts are glued to the pastic casing, so not possible to swap those.
Maybe I'll try to fix it with PU or epoxy putty, but for now this is fine.
(note, I cleaned the console after the photo was taken
